Mission

Baylight exists to thrill the heart of God by being a gospel community that through the power of the Holy Spirit multiplies passionate disciples of Jesus Christ around the world.
When Baylight was first planted, it sought to be a church that… “multiplies passionate disciples of Jesus Christ around the world”. That was the reason why three out-of-state people came together to the Bay Area. That was the reason why a small core group met together in a living room. That was the reason why Baylight was planted and launched. And that is still the reason why we exist today. Our goal is to multiply passionate disciples of Jesus Christ around the world.
2010:
In this season, Baylight has been called to hear and obey Jesus. And at Baylight, we believe that hearing and obeying Jesus deeply informs the way by which we multiply passionate disciples of Jesus Christ.
On one level, “hearing and obeying Jesus” is our first step in multiplying passionate disciples of Jesus Christ. We must start with knowing and experiencing what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. And Jesus himself defines what it means to be His disciple.
“Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock.” – Luke 6:47-48a
A disciple of Jesus, according to Jesus, is someone who hears and obeys Jesus.
We cannot effectively multiply people who hear and obey Jesus if we ourselves do not hear and obey Jesus. As it is in a biological family, in a spiritual family, spiritual children mimic the values and behaviors of their spiritual parents. To grow, nurture, and multiply passionate disciples of Jesus Christ who by definition hear and obey the Lord, we must set the pattern of hearing and obeying Jesus for others to mimic. Our first step must be to be disciples, people who hear and obey the Lord.
On another level, “hearing and obeying Jesus” is every step thereafter in multiplying passionate disciples of Jesus Christ. As we meet and live life with people who do not yet know Jesus, we will not blindly push our faith on others nor will we turn a blind eye to their spirituality. Rather, we will take our cues from Jesus, hearing from Him what we are to share and how we are to share Him with our friends and family who have yet to have a relationship with Him.
