Baylight Church Community Illness Policy

The COT and the Children’s Ministry Steering Committee have put together the following guidelines for our church and children’s ministry, in order to help keep our community, as well as those who visit, in good health.  In particular, these guidelines have been set forth with the most vulnerable members of our community in mind:  newborns, young children, pregnant women and others with compromised immune systems.

Adult Attendance at Church Events:

We encourage those who are feeling unwell to stay home and not attend Sunday service or church functions (“Church Events”).  In particular, those who have a fever, excessive nasal congestion, discharge, vomiting, diarrhea or coughing should refrain from attending Church Events.

In the event that your attendance while ill is unavoidable, we ask you to be considerate of others and to follow sanitary practices such as:

-frequent hand washing or use of hand sanitizers, particularly after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose;

-coughing/sneezing into your elbow and away from others; and

-encouraging your children to do the same, if they are ill.

Sick children:

For those with sick children, we would greatly appreciate your compliance/assistance with the following guidelines:

·Please do not bring sick children to the children’s ministry programs.  Ideally, children should remain at home:

  • for 24 hours after (i) a fever breaks, (ii) vomiting and/or (iii) diarrhea;
  • if they seem unwell; and/or
  • have excessive nasal congestion, discharge or coughing.

·If you feel that you must bring your child to a Church Event with any of the symptoms described above, please do not bring him/her to the nursery or Sunday School.  If your child is not feeling well, he/she will not enjoy the experience and could expose other children and the teachers to the illness.

·In the event you may have missed your child’s symptoms of illness or your child becomes ill during nursery or Sunday School, the children’s ministry staff and volunteers are instructed to send children back to their parents if they have any of the symptoms listed above.

While we realize this is often inconvenient for parents because children are constantly getting sick and you still want to attend Church Events, we ask that parents exercise consideration of others in this regard.
